Title: A rapid quench technique for multi-anvil experiments and its applications
Although quenching melts to glasses and measuring their properties is a reasonable approach to a better understanding of magmatic processes in the Earth’s interior, but becomes more challenging with increasing pressure, non-bridging oxygen, and volatile contents. This study has developed a rapid-quench technique in a multi-anvil press to expand the physical and chemical conditions for quenching by increasing the cooling rate by one order of magnitude. Using this technique, we have succeeded in quenching hydrous peridotite melts into glasses for the first time. Preliminary results of these glasses’ properties will be reported.
